Polka Stars Salute Kenny Bass

at SNPJ Farm, Sunday, August 20, 2017

Hall of Famers Jeff Pecon, John Pecon,

and Ralph Delligatti, plus Fred Kuhar

and Father Perkovich's Polka Mass

Celebrate the music of Cleveland's late polka legend Kenny Bass as the Jeff Pecon Orchestra appears with Fred Kuhar at SNPJ Farm in Kirtland, Ohio, Sunday, August 20, 2017.

Enjoy an all-star salute to Kenny Bass, one of the Cleveland-Style Polka's top bandleaders. Fr. Frank Perkovich arrives from Minnesota to start the day with his popular Polka Mass at 1:00. Jeff Pecon strikes up his orchestra with accordionist Fred Kuhar at 3:00 for four hours of dancing.

Kenny Bass (1922-1987) was one of the major talents of the Cleveland Polka sound, best known for his jazzed-up stylings. In the 1950s and 1960s, Kenny and the Polka Poppers performed for Decca, Coral and Roulette Records and appeared on radio, television and film. Contemporary groups, such as Brave Combo, count Kenny as an influence. A dedication to Kenny Bass will be at 5:00.

Bass, Kuhar, Fr. Perkovich and the core members of the orchestra, Jeff Pecon, John Pecon and Ralph Delligatti, have been inducted into the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame for their accomplishments in the style of American dance music rooted in the Slovenian folk tradition.

Before and during the dance, treat yourself to home-style dinners and sandwiches and refreshments. The special of the day is mile-high fried bologna sandwiches by Chef Dean. Admission is $8 for the dance and Polka Mass. Your hosts are the members and friends of SNPJ Charter Lodge No. 5, Naprej, along with the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame and Museum.

SNPJ Farm is just off Chardon Road (Route 6) at 10946 Heath Road in Kirtland, Ohio, three miles east of Route 306 and six miles west of Route 44. Contact 216-481-1379 for details.
